Joining Our Church
How do I become a Christian?
Baptism marks the beginning of a new life in Christ. To become a member of any Episcopal Church, including St. James', baptism is the first step. If youíve never been baptized, learn more about baptism by exploring these frequently asked questions, then contact the Vicar to explore your interest.
What does it mean to be a member of St. James'?
St. James' members are expected to help the Church carry out its mission of restoring all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.
This work is carried out by all lay persons in their work of ministry, which is to bear witness to Christ wherever you may be, and carry on Christís work of reconciliation in the world. Members are asked to take their place in worship regularly, and to remain faithful in working, praying, and giving for the benefit of the Kingdom of God.
How do I move my membership record to St. James' from another church?
If you have previously been a member of another church, and would like to transfer your church membership to St. James', contact The Rev. Ben Helmer. Youíll be asked to provide some basic information about yourself so that we may complete your membership record and notify your previous church.
What is baptism and why is it important?
Baptism is the sacrament by which we are adopted as Godís children, made members of Christís Body, the Church, and become inheritors of the Kingdom of God. At baptism, we publicly renounce the forces of evil in the world, repent of our sins, and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. We are baptized with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and are welcomed officially into the fellowship of believers, the Church.
